CVS Penguin News and Announcements
Dear Cheyenne Virtual School Families,
At Laramie County School District 1, student readiness is one of our top priorities. As such, Cheyenne Virtual School opened in the fall of 2020 to provide for our students during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, 941 kindergarten through sixth grade students were enrolled in the program. Since then, many students have gone back to in-person learning and numbers have drastically decreased. Currently, we have approximately 30 students across 15 elementary schools in the district attending, as the option is being offered through each neighborhood school until the end of this school year. Because of the program’s declining enrollment, starting with the 2023-2024 school year, LCSD1 will not be offering a district program for K-6 virtual school. CVS is no longer an option during online registration. As students continue to attend their 2022-2023 CVS classes, you may transition your student back to a brick-and-mortar school at any time. Additionally, we encourage you to meet with your neighborhood school principal about how your student can be included in school programming while they are finishing out their CVS experience. For example, you may wish to have your student attend in person for partial days in any subject area including art, music, physical education, clubs and activities, or participate in breakfast and lunch programs. If you still wish to pursue a virtual learning environment, please call 307-771-2188 to inquire about the opportunities outside of the district.
Sincerely,
Jim Fraley Assistant Superintendent of Instruction
